It Wasn’t Supposed to Happen This Way
The Rangers weren’t supposed to be in playoff contention, at least not with the Oakland A’s and the stacked power-hitting Angels in our division. ESPN said we couldn’t compete against these two.
The Rangers weren’t supposed to have a winning season, at least not after losing the hot Josh Hamilton, Mike Napoli, and clubhouse leader Michael Young. They were especially doomed when two of its veteran pitchers were put on the DL for the rest of the season and were replaced by rookies.
We weren’t supposed to win after losing Cruz, the most consistent power-hitter on our team.
We weren’t supposed to even be a Wild Card after a lackluster September and especially after losing an entire homestand to the Pirates and Oakland, whom we were fighting with for the AL West.
It wasn’t supposed to happen this way, but it did.
But now the Rangers are fighting for the 2nd Wild Card spot against the Rays down at the Temple tonight.
But now the Rangers are currently 91-71, adding just another winning season to its franchise history. All without Napoli or Young, and even with another former Ranger on the other side of the diamond trying to get us out of October in the last series of the regular season. And now we’re sending out our rookie on the mound to face the Rays’ ace in the most important game of the season, and our injured ace is throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
But now Cruz is joining us tonight. We went 29-21 without Cruz and only lost most of the series against the Pirates and A’s by just 1 run. It’s been obvious that we’ve missing a power hitter like Cruz all throughout August and September, but now he’s back. Oh, and he’s batting .428 against Price, who has a 10.28 ERA at the Temple.
There wasn’t supposed to be baseball tonight, but there is. It’s Game 163 and now the Rangers are selling tickets to tonight’s game and yes Kinsler, the fans will be showing up tonight. And out of the 40,000+ that show up tonight, the other 3 million fans that are unable to show up tonight will be glued to their seats watching and supporting you guys.
FINISH STRONG BOYS.
